Milan to Prague

I just got back from a six-day trip across Europe that took me from Milan to Prague by way of Zurich and Salzburg. It wasn’t a luxury getaway or a packed sightseeing sprint—just a chance to move through some great cities, enjoy the views, and get a break from the usual routine. Here’s how it went.

Day 1 – Manchester to Milan

The trip started on a Monday with a flight from Manchester to Milan Bergamo. From there, I took a coach into the city and headed to my Airbnb in Chinatown, just north of Castello Sforzesco. The rest of the day was just about settling in after the travel.

Day 2 – A Chill Day in Milan

Tuesday was my one full day in Milan. I kept it pretty relaxed—visited Castello Sforzesco, took a walk through the grounds, and went to see The Last Supper. The city wasn’t too busy, and it was a good day to recharge and ease into the trip.

Day 3 – Milan to Zurich by Train

On Wednesday, I caught a morning train from Milan to Zurich. The route through the lakes and Alps was the highlight—some amazing scenery the whole way. Zurich itself was sunny and calm. I spent most of the afternoon by the river with a coffee, just enjoying the atmosphere before heading out again the next day.

Day 4 – Zurich to Salzburg

Another travel day, this time from Zurich to Salzburg, again by train through the Alps. The views didn’t disappoint. I arrived in Salzburg in the afternoon and had a bit of time to walk around and get a feel for the place.

Day 5 – Exploring Salzburg

Friday was all about Salzburg. I took the funicular up to Hohensalzburg Fortress for the views, then visited Mirabell Gardens and Schloss Mirabell. The city’s small enough to see a lot in a day, and it’s got a good mix of history and open space.

Day 6 – The Long Way to Prague, Then Home

Saturday didn’t go quite to plan. I was supposed to take a direct train to Prague, but halfway through the journey there was a track issue, and we got put on a rail replacement bus to Tábor, then a train from there into Prague. I still managed a short walk around the city, though it was packed due to a marathon. From there, it was straight to the airport for a flight back to Manchester in the evening.
